Woodstock Wolverine Coaches and Staff

Dan Devine

Head Football Coach

Bio: Coach Devine graduated Yorktown High School in 1995 as two-time state football champion (1993-1994). He went on to play Div II college football at Chowan University where he was a multi-year letter man. After injuries forced Dan to head home, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Mercy College. There, Dan found his passion for teaching and coaching and went on to substitute teach and volunteer as a strength coach at his high school Alma Mater.

Dan and his family moved down to the Charlotte, NC area in 2003 where he started his coaching and teaching career at Hopewell High School (NC). Dan was a special education teacher and a football assistant at Hopewell from 2003-2007 on both the defensive and offensive sides of the ball. He then got his first crack at the head coaching ranks as Head Coach for Hickory Grove Christian School in Charlotte, NC from 2008-2009. He received CPFC coach of the year honors in 2008. Coach Devine then moved on to rival Westminster Catawba Christian the next two seasons where he served as the Athletic Director and Head Coach and received CPFC Coach of the year honors in 2010. In August of 2010 Dan also received his graduate degree in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University located in Shelby, NC.

Coach Devine spent eight years at Alpharetta High School where he helped win two region championships as the Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator. There he led three of his defensives to top 10 ranking in total defense and points.

Dan also served as the Head Football Coach at North Springs HS (2016) where he led the Spartans to their first playoff appearance in 18 years.

Dan then moved on to his first stint in Cherokee county as the Defensive Coordinator at Etowah High School. Dan was also the Defensive Coordinator at West Forsyth High School in Cumming, GA.

Dan is married to his beautiful wife Suzi and they have two children, Ethan who is 15 and Lia who is 11.


Offensive Staff

Justin Pearce

Assistant Head Coach Offense / Offensive Coordinator / QB

Coach Pearce is starting his 16th Year in Education/Coaching.  He started his career at Duluth High School in Gwinnett County. After 2 years he returned to his Alma Mater Rabun County High School helping them win their 1st Region Championship in over 10 years.  Following Rabun, he became the Offensive Coordinator at Fannin County High School setting the school scoring record for points in a season at the time.  Following Fannin, Coach Pearce became the Offensive Coordinator at Cherokee High School and helped guide them to 4 consecutive Playoff appearances.  This will be Coach Pearce’s 1st year at Woodstock High School.

Coach Pearce is Originally from Clayton Ga. He received his Undergraduate Degree in Mathematics from The University of West Ga.  He later received his Master’s and Specialist Degree from Valdosta State University in Teacher Leadership. He is married to Nicole Pearce, and they have two Children, Peyton (8-Daughter) and Parker (4-Son).  

Josh Smerker

Wide Receivers

The 2023 Season will be Coach Smerker’s 24th year of coaching, and the 10th year here at Woodstock. Coach Smerker teaches Special Education Math at WHS and received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Widener University and has a Master’s degree in Teaching and Learning from Nova Southeastern University. His wife, Kathryn is a special education teacher here in CCSD at Ball Ground ES. He has two daughters, Sydney (14) who attends Woodstock High School, and Samantha (12) who attends Woodstock Middle School.

Jake Brock

Offensive Line

Although Coach Brock is entering his first season with the Wolverines, he brings recent and valuable experience to the team. Coach Brock played offensive line at Reinhardt University for 5 years and signed with an IFL team. He believes that bringing competitive energy to practice and games are key to success. Treat every rep like it’s a game.

He is also coaching weight training at WHS.

Bernard Walker

Running Backs

Coach Walker enters his 4th year of coaching. This will also be his 4th year at Woodstock High School, where he also coaches Basketball and teaches Health & PE.

Coach Walker is from Macon, GA and played football at Rutland High School. Coach Walker also attended Valdosta State University where he received his B.S. and M.Ed. degrees in Health and Physical Education. Coach Walker and his wife, Sydney, recently welcomed their newborn daughter (Trinity) in May 2022.

 

Scott Stansel

Tight Ends & H-Backs

Coach Stansel has been coaching for over 20 years and has been an assistant coach at Woodstock 11 years as receivers coach, running backs coach, and JV offensive coordinator. Coach Stansel coached in the JR Wolverine program for 10 years before moving to the Woodstock Varsity Staff. Prior to coaching in the Woodstock program,

Coach Stansel was President of Cherokee Youth Football Association (CYFA) and coach there for 6 years.

Coach Stansel graduated from Etowah High School and completed his bachelor’s degree from Lee University in 2019.

Coach Stansel and his girlfriend Mardi Williams have five children, Brittany Stansel, Bryan Stansel, Braydon Stansel, Robbie Williams, and Charlie Williams. Coach Stansel also has two grandsons, Gavin and Gabriel.


Defensive Staff

Josh Weaver

Assistant Head Coach Defense / Defensive Line / Special Teams Coordinator

Coach Weaver is entering into his 14th year of coaching, 3rd at Woodstock High School. 

Prior to coming to Woodstock High School, Coach Weaver was at North Springs High School for seven years; five as the Special Teams Coordinator and two as Defensive Coordinator. During his time there, he helped lead the team to back to back playoff seasons. 

Prior to North Springs, Coach Weaver was the defensive backs and defensive line coach at Lithia Springs High School.

Prior to arriving at Lithia Springs, Coach Weaver spent a season coaching outside linebackers and special teams at the University of West Georgia. That season, Weaver coached the Gulf South Conference Freshman Defensive Player of the year while also coaching several All-GSC conference performers and two All-Americans on Special Teams. 

Before West Georgia, Coach Weaver was the freshman linebackers and offensive line coach at Marietta High School. 

Weaver is also the Head Track and Field Coach for Woodstock. 

Weaver is a native of Marietta, GA. He played football and ran track at Marietta High School and played his college football at the University of Memphis. He is married to Janelle Weaver and has a son named Elijah. 

Andrew "OZ" Price

Defensive Coordinator & Inside Linebackers

Coach Oz Price begins his 25th year of coaching overall and 12th year at Woodstock. Coach Price is from Watertown, WI, and received his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Mathematics from Maranatha Baptist Bible College (Watertown, WI) in 1998. While at Maranatha, he lettered and started four years as a linebacker. Coach Price earned his Master’s in Physical Education from Ball State University (Muncie, IN) in 2008 and his Education Specialist from Valdosta State University (Valdosta, GA) in 2017.   

He first started coaching football at Aurora Christian Schools (Aurora, IL) from 1999 - 2003, the last 4 years as Head Coach. He was named the PSL Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2003. From 2004 – 06, Price was an assistant at Ben Davis High School (Indianapolis, IN) coaching defensive and offensive line. Coach Price moved to Georgia in 2007 and spent 3 seasons coaching at Sequoyah with the last two seasons as Defensive Coordinator. In 2010, Coach transferred to Woodstock High School and was the DC for 11 seasons. In 2021 and 22 Coach was a defensive analyst at Reinhardt University (Waleska, GA).

He is married to Heidi who is a RN at Little Hickory Pediatrics; they have three children, Campbell, (2019 WHS Grad), Chloe (2020 WHS Grad) and Cooper (Junior LB at WHS). Coach is also a Deacon at First Baptist Church Woodstock.

Kenneth "Ken" Kretschmar

Outside Linebackers

Coach Kenneth Kretschmar holds a Master's Degree in Health and Physical Education from Valdosta State University.

Coach Kretschmar brings 21 years of football coaching experience to the team. Coach Kretschmar began his teaching career in Conyers, Georgia where he was the head football coached at Davis Middle School.  Prior to becoming the head coach at Davis, he was the defensive coordinator for the team. He coached his teams to many league and county championships. He made the move to high school coaching 6 years ago when he became an assistant coach at Pickens High School in Jasper, Ga. During his time at PHS he coached line backers for two years and was the offensive line coach for another two years.

Coach Kretschmar enjoys coaching year-round and is the WHS Head Wrestling Coach and a track coach. When he is not coaching, he enjoys spending time with his wife Angie, hiking, and volunteering at Camp Sunshine.  

Jared Wallace

Cornerbacks Coach

Coach Wallace has coached at Woodstock High School since 2015. From 2015 to 2016 coach Wallace was the Freshman DB Coach; he moved up to Freshman Head Coach from 2017 to 2018. From 2019 to 2020 he was the Wide Receivers Coach for Varsity and since 2021 Coach Wallace has been the Cornerbacks Coach. 

Prior to coaching at Woodstock, Coach Wallce was the 8th Grade Running Backs Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Blessed Trinity Jr. Titans from 2013-2014. 

He also coached the North Cobb Christian School Jr. Eagles in 2012 (6th Grade WRs/Co-OC); from 2006 to 2010 he coached the Roswell Jr. Hornets as the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Wide Receivers.

Position Held:  Athletic Trainer

Background: Grew up in South Dakota. Played volleyball, basketball, and ran track and field. 

Experience: Before joining Northside Hospital and Woodstock High School, worked for the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, GA from 2015-2017 as the ATC for Jordan Vocational High School and covered multiple sporting events in the area. 

Schools Attended: Graduated in 2011 from Winner High School. Received a Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training from Augustana College in 2015. Earned a Master of Science in Physical Education from University of North Georgia in 2017.
